Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean that their opinion isn't valid. ![]() It is important to be open-minded and willing to hear different points of view. Be open-minded - This is another important quality for leaders.Be patient and don't interrupt - This is a common problem as we can get so wrapped up in our own thoughts that we forget to let the other person finish speaking.This can be a great way to build trust and rapport with others. ![]() When you take the time to listen, it shows that you value their opinion and that you are interested in what they have to say. Start by showing that you care - The best way to show that you care about someone is to listen to them.What are some body languages and non-verbal clues: This type of listening is common in the workplace, when you're considering a new product or service, or when you're evaluating a job candidate. Critical listening - When you want to evaluate what someone has said, you'll use critical listening.It's also useful in everyday life, such as when you're trying to comfort a friend who is going through a tough time. This type of listening is often used by counselors, therapists, and doctors. Empathic listening - When you want to understand how someone else is feeling, you'll use empathic listening.This type of listening is common in the classroom, during lectures, and when reading books or articles. Informational listening - When you want to learn something, you'll use informational listening to gain knowledge.What are a few different types of listening? Listening means paying attention not only to the story, but how it is told - verbal and non-verbal clues - the use of language, voice, and how the person uses his or her body. Your ability to listen effectively depends on the degree to which you perceive and understand these clues. Listening, however, requires more than that it requires focus and concentrated effort. Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound. Is there a difference between hearing and listening? When you take the time to understand someone, they will be more likely to trust you and listen to what you have to say. People want to be heard and they want to feel like their opinion matters. This is one of the most important things to remember when trying to improve your listening skills. Seek to understand and you will be understood But if we want to truly understand what someone is saying, we need to put aside our thoughts and really focus on theirs. When someone is speaking to me, I often find myself formulating a response in my head before they have even finished what they are saying. This is a difficult task for many people, myself included.
